X1 diesel/petrol
The X1 with traditional internal combustion engines in Diesel or Petrol.
BMW • iX1
The new BMW iX1 is a fully electric compact SUV that is also available in petrol, diesel or hybrid engines. The new X1 design is very attractive and reminds us of a compact X5. We are happy to see this design approach over the more riskier X7 and 7 Series dual light design.
This article is specifically written for Belgian buyers, so we believe the electric X1 option is an ideal option for Belgian lease buyers. From 2026 all new lease contracts must be fully electric cars. This decision is to push more electric cars on the Belgian car market and accelerate the change towards electric and renewable energy. It's only 3 years from now, until everyone will be forced to buy an electric car. If you want to have an earlier taste of the electric driving experience, going fo the new iX1 might be a very good option.
We go in detail in this article and cover most important aspects of the new BMW iX1.

Go fully electric with the X1!
Compared to the previous generation X1, the new design is an incredible step forward. BMW redesigned the X1 into a proper SUV. The boxier shape with flatter front bumper and sharper edges build the look of an SUV. The new X1, looks like a baby X5 and that's a huge compliment compared to the previous X1 models.
The new X1 looks more agressive and sleeker compared to the older model. We applaud BMW for choosing this design over the more questionable dual light design of the X7 and 7 Series.
Going into more detail, you will notice a boxier and larger front grille. It's not enormous as on the 4 Series or the BMW X7. It's nice and proportioned with the rest of the front bumper design.
On the side you have a flush design with the integrated door handles into the bodywork. With the new model you can choose for a wheelsize up to 20 inches. The previous model had a maximum wheel size of 19 inches. The 20 inches fit the new X1 well due to the larger dimension. The new X1 is also slightly larger than the previous model.
In the rear, you have beautiful rear light designs that stick out to the edges of the body and create a muscular stance.
The interior is also a big step forward, with a similar design to what you find in the BMW iX SUV. Instead of a dual screen design, you now have a single large screen covering the driver and center display at once. The infotainment system is running on the latest BMW iDrive 8.
Also the interior quality and design has received an incredible revamp. The most noticeable design change is the floating center console, again very similar to the BMW iX. The buttons and vents are all in-line with the latest BMW models. As usual you have a lot of different trim options from luxurious to sport.
Both the X1 and iX1 are identical in interior design.
With all the seats in use, the new BMW X1 has a boot capacity of 540 litres, that is 35 litres more than the previous generation X1. Because of the batteries on the BMX iX1 being underneath the floor. The plug-in hybrid however has slightly less boot space of 490 litres due to the batteries being mounted underneath the boot.
The new BMW X1 (and iX1) will be more practical than the previous generation BMW X1 and that's mainly thanks to the 22mm longer wheelbase. More space between the two wheels allows for a larger cabin space. The new car is also 24mm wider than the previous model and the roof is 44mm higher than before.
The rear seats are raised slightly higher to make it more comfortable for all passengers on longer journeys.
The new BMX iX1 electric SUV comes with dual electric motors in the front and rear giving it four wheel drive. The two motors combined produce 330 horsepower and can accelerate the car from 0 to 100km/h in 5.7 seconds. The battery capacity is 76kWh of usable capacity which gives a claimed range of 437 kilometres, just slightly more than the Mercedes-Benz EQA. In reality though, it will be just over 300 kilometres of effective range. Climate and road conditions play a huge role in the actual range of a car.
Charging does go faster with the BMW iX1 because it can handle 130kW DC charging compared to 100kW with the Mercedes-Benz EQA.
All BMW X1 models come with a fully automatic transmission. Cruise control is standard in all models, including park assist that will automatically parallel park in tight spaces.
Its body producses less drag than the old car, so it should be slightly quieter on higher speeds.
Just like any BMW, you have the option to equip the car with sport suspension. If you pick the M-Sport trim, the car gets lowered by 15mm and comes with stiffer shock absorbers.
The X1 is not a tall vehicle, unlike the BMW X5 or X7. So taking corners will not feel like you are manoeuvring a boat.
New models come with higher safety equipment as standard and so is the new BMW X1/iX1.
Automatic safety braking comes in as standard but it can also warn whether there is a car, cyclist or pedestrian is about to cross the road in front of you.
Other safety options however are optional. Such as adaptive cruise control with lane keep assist. It's nice to know that it is available as an option, but it's surely going to be a costly upgrade.
The new BMW X1 will start at a price of 39.750 euro excluding any dealer discounts. The electric BMW X1 starts at a price of 50.000 euro excluding dealer discounts.
How much discount can we expect on a new BMW iX1 or any X1 for that matter?
You can expect up to 3% discount on the new BMW iX1, but it will increase over time to 9% discount after 2 to 3 years (in 2025-2026).
