Is a Skoda stock car a good choice?

The Skoda brand is one of the cleverest brands to exist in the automotive industry. They have been scoring record sales through the years by implementing an interesting strategy. All cars by Skoda are based on a Volkswagen. For example, the Skoda Octavia is a competitor to the Volkswagen Passat. Both are of similar size, with the Octavia being 8.6 cm shorter in length. If you would say, “No the Skoda Superb competes with the Volkswagen Passat”. Then you are right in terms of pricing, but the Superb is almost 10 cm longer than the Passat.

You see what Skoda did here? All their cars compete with a Volkswagen, but the vehicle is actually "bloated" from a smaller size Volkswagen. The Octavia that competes with the Passat in size, actually is based on the Volkswagen Golf platform. The Octavia, whilst being on the same Volkswagen Golf platform, is larger but for the same price of a Golf. This interesting marketing technique has brought Skoda a lot of sales. They are the pinnacle of delivering more car for the price. With this formula, Skoda is always better priced then your equivalent Volkswagen.

So, is there no downside to this? Yes, there is and quite a significant one. While a Skoda is more car for the money, the components used to carefully balance the smaller chassis on a larger car is quite a tricky exercise. With that as a result, the Skoda engineers struggle to build a solid feeling chassis. You will feel a huge difference between a Skoda and equivalent (smaller) Volkswagen, during spirited driving or high-speed driving. The equivalent Volkswagen will feel stronger and more balanced on the road. But if you are not bothered by this but use the car for simply A to B travel. Then buying a Skoda stock car, with especially the high discounts they have on offer, is surely one of the greatest purchases you can do!
